Why I built this

For years I wanted to get better at budgeting.

I tried Excel. I tried Notion. Both had learning curves I didn't have the patience for. I'd set everything up, use it for a week, then abandon it.

I tried apps like 22Seven that sync your bank accounts automatically. The automation was convenient, but it disconnected me from my money. Transactions would appear and I'd barely glance at them. The app felt like it was trying to optimise my finances when I didn't even understand them yet.

I didn't need optimisation. I just wanted to know where my money was going.

So I built Flynch.

It's simple on purpose. You enter your expenses manually. You see where your money goes. That's it.

The act of typing in each expense forces you to notice. And noticing is the first step to changing anything.

If you're looking for automatic bank syncing or AI-powered insights, this isn't for you. But if you want to build real awareness of your spending through the simple discipline of tracking it yourself, welcome.

An opinionated way of budgeting

Flynch makes decisions for you so you don't have to. No endless configuration. No analysis paralysis. Just start tracking.

  • 10 categories: enough to see patterns, not so many that you get lost
  • Expense presets: common expenses ready to go, so you spend less time typing
  • Weekly spend digests: a simple summary of where your money went each week

This is for you if

  • You're tired of tracking with spreadsheets.
  • You're not looking for an app that optimises your finances.
  • You want to track manually and build awareness of your spending.
